I'm thinking pink...and this is why [Budget kitchen makeover update]

Everyone's obsessed with pink right now. Blush, dusky, plaster, rose...we are loving all the shades, in bathrooms, bedrooms, sitting rooms...just about anywhere! So far I've only succumbed to pink linen sheets in our bedroom and I've painted the inside of my front door Farrow & Ball Calamine. But what if I told you I was considering painting my kitchen pink...would you high five me? Or look at me like I'd let all this interior blogging stuff go to my head?

It's ok, I'll forgive you if it's the latter. I was going to go for dark olive green. But ever since I coated the previously orangey melamine kitchen cabinets in white primer thus unveiling a brighter, lighter space, I've been trying to come up with a suitable colour I can paint them which will retain this light space. I don't really do white, unless it's marble. Light grey? Meh. Pale green? Nah. Yellow? No way. Beige? Just no. There's nothing wrong with any of these colours by the way. It's just that I want something a bit different. So I was struggling. And then I saw this...

Now this is obviously super sleek and super modern AKA nothing like my current kitchen situation. But this dusky pink set-up looks anything but naff. The seed was planted. And I fell into a Pinterest pink kitchen spiral for the rest of the evening (ok, week).

This surprisingly sophisticated space is in the colour combo of the moment, pink and green. Those tiles are a bold, unexpected choice alongside the simple pink cabinets. I think what makes this kitchen so special is that it really shouldn't work, but it totally does!

More green and pink. Love the textures of the rough sawn timber paired with the pink painted brickwork. I got a bit obsessed with these natural kitchens a few months back after my friend had a Sebastian Cox for deVOL one fitted in her house. It's not my usual style but there is something so low key luxe about all that texture.

And yet another pink and green combo. This time using ice cream shades of pistachio and palest blush. But I love how the monochrome flooring and black window frames and bar stools plus simple, elegant pendant lighting bring a cool design edge and stop it looking too girly.

All the heart eyes for this gorgeous little zoned pink set-up in this ultra-feminine Parisian hideaway which acts as the curated apartment of French fashion label Marie Sixtine. The terrazzo worktop and splashback might just be the prettiest kitchen surface I've ever seen!

Ok, so this just has a pink door but the super luxe monochrome, marble and brass kitchen combo are majorly improved by that playful pop of pink. Incidentally Sarah Sherman Samuel creates the most heavenly of spaces and her Insta is a must-follow.

So safe to say I'm pretty sold on the pink kitchen. The thing is, this is a temporary fix so f**k it. It's not like I'm sinking Β£20k into it. And if I don't like it, I can always paint over it. Though I do have to admit I am a teeny bit concerned about it looking like a retro themed American diner if I go all pink errr-thing. And that's not really the look I'm aiming for. So a small part of me is still considering painting the bottom cabinets in a dark grey or a deep blue, like Farrow and Ball's Railings or even Little Greene's Basalt, which we already have in our living room. Funnily enough it's a bathroom image that I keep coming back to in terms of this colour combo.

I mean....this is just so lush. My own bathroom renovation is a way off, and in any case I'm eyeing up a copper bath for in there. But aside from that bath, those tiles and that wall panelling, there is also this pretty perfect colour palette of pink, blue-grey and pops of coral. This shot also makes me want to go out and start hacking branches off one of the cherry blossom trees in our street but I'll resist that temptation for fear of arrest, or at least a sternly worded letter from the council.

So pink it is. But precisely how much pink? You'll have to wait and see...

[Oh and btw, if you're wondering (justifiably so) why this makeover is taking a while it's because I have been pouring all of my energy into getting this here blog up and running. So bear with me.]
